Rômulo Custódio might have been able to make a better finish in the 3rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rômulo Custódio ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 3rd minute Rômulo Custódio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olivedos's Abelardo Maranhense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 8th minute of play. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Abelardo Maranhense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel de Godoi in the 14th minute of the match. Abelardo Maranhense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cássio Ferraz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 26th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Olivedos's Abelardo Maranhense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 30th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Felix Montenegro in the 40th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Abelardo Maranhense saved Olivedos from getting behind. 45 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luisinho Ceresso was slow to take the kick. During this time Olivedos's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Luisinho Ceresso got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Abel de Godoi to make the kick off. Olivedos's Abelardo Maranhense proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Olivedos from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Abel de Godoi's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cássio Ferraz in the 54th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
