When the match clock showed 18 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Roque Aguilar sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. Matias Dimo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 23rd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Alex Sarangapani blasted a shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save.
