Victor Negara was left in no man's land by his defense there! Manuel Bobailă recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 16th minute, Marcel Turcescu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Rovine Craiova fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. 18 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristinel Leluțiu. Ricardo Zorita stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristinel Leluțiu's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. Abram Luque fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Victor Negara having to interfere. Cristinel Leluțiu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Ricardo Zorita made a huge save. 31 minutes into the match, Cristinel Leluțiu dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Ricardo Zorita, 2-1. Rovine Craiova's Valer Lobonț got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Ricardo Zorita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristinel Leluțiu in the 34th minute. The supporters of Rovine Craiova booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mateo Leguizamo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Basarab Teleagă's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ricardo Zorita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino got a free kick in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Cristinel Leluțiu was the one to do the kick off. Cristinel Leluțiu took the ball and in the 51 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-1. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristinel Leluțiu in the 54th minute of play. El Salvador's Jesus Carvallo quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Manuel Bobailă, made in the 59th minute of the game. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristinel Leluțiu in the 63rd minute of play. Ricardo Zorita didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cristinel Leluțiu went, in the 65th minute, to the upper right corner, 5-1 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristinel Leluțiu in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ricardo Zorita saved El Salvador from getting behind. Moises Fernandino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Victor Negara having to interfere. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristinel Leluțiu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. Valentino Ferrant hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match.
