Atlético Mineiro's Tomé Brasil managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Alfredo Ferrant in the 27 minute of the game. César de Queiroz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Camilo Freixa having to interfere. César de Queiroz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Camilo Freixa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Camilo Freixa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from César de Queiroz, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. Alfonso de la Cruz kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Atlético Mineiro's André Luís Best got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Atlético Mineiro fully deserved thier win.
