If Thierry Henry had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. GuateFortín's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chile the free kick. The supporters of Chile booed when GuateFortín was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zico Zellier didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thierry Henry struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Thiago Pliego didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GuateFortín. After a rather tough play, GuateFortín's Roberto Trotta got a free kick in the 46th minute.

The wind increased when Thierry Henry made the kick off in the second half. Chile were furious when Gerardo Pozo was red carded, 51 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 51st minute of the game. One of Chile:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of GuateFortín:s goal. The referee gave GuateFortín a penalty, 54 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Angel Alvarenga, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Chile's Thiago Pliego. 2-0. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orlando Casaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Thiago Pliego took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thierry Henry, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Thierry Henry in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Thiago Pliego prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Thiago Pliego showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thierry Henry in the 91st minute of the match. Orlando Casaus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Nery Pumpido tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
