The throw-in from Primitivo Andino in the 21st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Here Comes the Hammer's Tord Spetz. If Valdir Velloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Tord Spetz kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 32nd match minute when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Charles Björkqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. 43 minutes into the game, Tord Spetz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Here Comes the Hammer's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. Charles Björkqvist made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 74th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Carlinhos Félix in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Carlinhos Félix stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Carlinhos Félix tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
