In the 9th minute Leonard Chirculescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 14th minute, Paralia Athens's Leonard Chirculescu ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Lautaro Puig recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 21 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Carballo. After recieving a nice pass, Paralia Athens's Teodor Romeo tried to score from far away in the 23rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Leonard Chirculescu might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leonard Chirculescu ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Leonard Chirculescu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Paralia Athens's Doru Apostu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Axel Tasis in the 37th minute of play. Leonard Chirculescu who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 39thth minute tested the skills of Benito Sanz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Paralia Athens booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Efrain Moruga didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Unai Herrera kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz.
