The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Joshua Curbelo a yellow card for diving instead. UNITED made a substitution. Zoilo Sauca replaced Darío Cabrol. In the 41st minute, Joshua Curbelo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 43 minutes into the game, C.J. La Marca cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Ricardo Zorita was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mateo Leguizamo during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 46 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Mateo Leguizamo. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Moises Fernandino made a kick off. With his leg Colon Manrique managed to avoid a goal in the 64thth minute, when El Salvador's Moises Fernandino fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Abram Luque's late challenge caught a UNITED's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Garaile Lagunas kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. When the match clock showed 77 minutes, the score became 4-1 when C.J. La Marca sped through El Salvador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling C.J. La Marca in the 83rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ricardo Zorita prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 86 minutes of play UNITED's Alvaro Morata was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. El Salvador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
