The throw-in from Cícero Branco in the 4th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert. When Joshua Secada fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Joshua Secada a yellow card for diving instead. Joshua Secada kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. A throw-in in the 10th minute of the game was made by Camilo Gaos with Tomas Illescas as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. When Venezuela's Tomas Illescas in the 12th minute got a chance for a shot 12th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Callegari's goalie prevented a goal. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Walmir Valladares having to make a save. Walmir Valladares didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Patricio Costa went, in the 19th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 23rd minute of play forced Callegari's goalkeeper Walmir Valladares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Callegari's Walmir Valladares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 32nd minute of play. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Patricio Costa hit a great ball. After 38 played minutes Callegari got a freekick which was hit by Cícero Branco. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Walmir Valladares made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 45th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Umberto Matos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walmir Valladares having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 56th minute. Callegari's Paulo Renato Falcão quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Alex Chicote, made in the 59th minute of the game. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Umberto Matos in the 63rd minute of play. Pedro Augusto de Godoi kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Callegari's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Patricio Costa 66 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-3. Venezuela's attentive Salvador Gisbert managed to snatch the ball when Cícero Branco made a throw-in in the 70th minute of the game. In the 72nd minute, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-4. Salvador Gisbert's late challenge caught a Callegari's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Salvador Gisbert helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Salvador Gisbert got a free kick in the 76th minute. Umberto Matos scored 1-4 in the 77th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 82 minutes into the match, Callegari's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Walmir Valladares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. During the 83rd minute of the match Cícero Branco completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Cícero Branco a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Guillermo Mariano made in the 87th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Tomas Illescas. With a little luck, Callegari's Walmir Valladares got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 96th minute, Venezuela's Patricio Costa dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-5. The Venezuela supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Venezuela would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
