Nilson Peres came out of the goal and Mariano Lacasa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Sand in the 7th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Sand in the 10th minute of play. If José Sand had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Nilson Peres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 22nd minute of play. Thiago Pliego took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Sand, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mariano Lacasa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nilson Peres having to make a save. In the 30th minute José Sand shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Robert Arboleda kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. Chile's Thiago Pliego played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Sand in the 37th minute of play.
