With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Through an outstanding action, after 5 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 7th minute Emiliano Velasco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dinu Ivănescu might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dinu Ivănescu ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Emiliano Velasco tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 18th minute of play forced Despidida AFC's goalkeeper Fernando Selatse to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fernando Selatse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 20 played minutes Despidida AFC got a freekick which was hit by Kees Harmsen. When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, Daniel Zorita put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Fernando Selatse. Fernando Selatse made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 27th minute of play. Emiliano Velasco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Emiliano Velasco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Emiliano Velasco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fernando Selatse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Emiliano Velasco to make the kick off. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Emiliano Velasco, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Despidida AFC made a substitution. Kajetan Gdowik replaced Pastor Tino. A collision led to Despidida AFC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Pastor Tino hit a great ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toro Martínez in the 59th minute of play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Toro Martínez in the 62nd minute of the match. If Toro Martínez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 64 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Toro Martínez came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luis Andino hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Toro Martínez, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. After 70 played minutes, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Fernando Selatse came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ecuador reached it. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Despidida AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cain Velasquez didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Fernando Selatse in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 78 played minutes Despidida AFC got a freekick which was hit by Cain Velasquez. With a little luck, Despidida AFC's Fernando Selatse got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Fernando Selatse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Fernando Selatse in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Toro Martínez in the 88th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ancho Branca's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Ancho Branca kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Despidida AFC had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
