Union Y Progreso F.C.'s Dragomir Marchovski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 13th minute of play. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dragomir Marchovski took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Union Y Progreso F.C.'s Dragomir Marchovski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 27th minute of play. In the 28th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Union Y Progreso F.C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Union Y Progreso F.C.'s Dragomir Marchovski did a great save. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 39th minute after Union Y Progreso F.C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The referee felt a red card was in order, 43 minutes into the game, when Antonio Arias put in a rough tackle. After 43 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! The goalkeeper, Julio Vera, was totally fooled by Union Y Progreso F.C.'s Carlos Sueiro, who 44 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Santiago Meruendano was the one to do the kick off. After 50 played minutes Union Y Progreso F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Sueiro. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Union Y Progreso F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Venceslas Pumares didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Santiago Meruendano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Santiago Meruendano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After recieving a nice pass, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita tried to score from far away in the 71st minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zeng Ting Xing in the 73rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 86th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Santiago Meruendano took the ball and in the 88 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olle Melander in the 94th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Union Y Progreso F.C. players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
