But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by Asesinos Por Naturaleza's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Agustín Saelices sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pablo Lohitzun made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 35th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Beto Márcico in the 36th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 42 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Silvestre Moise who took care of the corner kick. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices got a free kick in the 44th minute. Rui Furtado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Asesinos Por Naturaleza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Saverio Etxeberri didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 53rd minute Rui Furtado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Beto Márcico in the 57th minute of the match. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 65th minute, which Pablo Lohitzun however easily saved by the left post. With a little luck, Asesinos Por Naturaleza's Pablo Lohitzun got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 69 minutes of play, Asesinos Por Naturaleza's Ferdinand Redondo made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Asesinos Por Naturaleza made a substitution. Felipe Ralondo replaced Beto Márcico. 73 minutes into the match, Asesinos Por Naturaleza's goalkeeper Pablo Lohitzun had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Asesinos Por Naturaleza's Pablo Lohitzun played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 85th minute of play.
