The referee showed Eloy Hats the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 12 played minutes Sporting Clube de Gaya got a freekick which was hit by Eloy Hats. The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Honduras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Esteban Carvallo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sporting Clube de Gaya's Renato Vargas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmundo Espiga in the 42nd minute of play. Honduras's Luca Espinar managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Mustapha Hadji in the 44 minute of the game. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Honduras were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
