Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Paulino Maltez in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Fredy Montero sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Axel Tasis hit a great ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Axel Tasis during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Axel Tasis hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alexander Carballo got a free kick in the 24th minute. Fredy Montero who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 29thth minute tested the skills of Benito Sanz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After 30 played minutes Sporting Clube de Gaya got a freekick which was hit by Ahmet Koralp Tükel. Lautaro Puig fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renato Vargas having to interfere. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Axel Tasis hit a great ball. Paulino Maltez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. Juan Rubio hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Alexander Carballo's late challenge caught a Sporting Clube de Gaya's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alexander Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexander Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Paulino Maltez made the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that Paulino Maltez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. When Alan Moruga fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Alan Moruga a yellow card for diving instead. After 55 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. Fredy Montero's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. Lucílio Figueiras fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After 60th play minutes Axel Tasis shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Renato Vargas and just under the crossbar into goal. After 63 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Carballo. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Lucílio Figueiras in the 66th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. 69 minutes into the match, Sporting Clube de Gaya's goalkeeper Renato Vargas had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aaron Alcocer. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulino Maltez in the 80th minute of play. Axel Tasis's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 83rdth minute, Renato Vargas skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Figo in the 87th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fredy Montero in the 88th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 90th minute, Paulino Maltez ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fredy Montero in the 93rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee ended the match the Sporting Clube de Gaya players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
