If Dancho Vamporov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Belcho Hlebarov sent off a good shot on target. In the 15th minute, Belcho Hlebarov made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. 18 minutes into the match, ЦСКА's goal looked a bit too open when Lautaro Puig came free, but Anzhelo Gerushin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to ЦСКА getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Malin Sivchev hit a great ball. If Eliseo Noboa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 45th minute, Eliseo Noboa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Axel Tasis made the kick off in the second half. ЦСКА's Belcho Hlebarov got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Belcho Hlebarov might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Belcho Hlebarov ran back to his position shaking his head. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Belcho Hlebarov, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. With a little luck, ЦСКА's Anzhelo Gerushin got control of the ball when Axel Tasis tried to sneak it across the goal line. Lyuboslav Popinski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of ЦСКА booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Efrain Moruga didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Belcho Hlebarov in the 75th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. There was no doubt that ЦСКА were the better team. ЦСКА's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
