The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. John Eriksson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 4thth minute, Julio Vera skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 6th minute of play forced Here Comes the Hammer's goalkeeper Charles Björkqvist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felix Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 8th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Here Comes the Hammer's attentive Yu Xiong Yan managed to snatch the ball when Camilo Gisbert made a throw-in in the 12th minute of the game. After having played for 15 minutes, Valdir Velloso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Here Comes the Hammer's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdir Velloso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Charles Björkqvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Valdir Velloso scored 1-0 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Here Comes the Hammer's goalkeeper Charles Björkqvist, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Valdir Velloso struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Here Comes the Hammer. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Here Comes the Hammer was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edmund Hansson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 42nd minute of the match Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Charles Björkqvist showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute Valdir Velloso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 56th minute, Felix Montenegro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Charles Björkqvist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. When Cristian Sancho came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. In the 72nd play minute Daniel Zorita came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Charles Björkqvist. 1-1. Here Comes the Hammer made a substitution. Carlinhos Félix replaced Valdir Velloso. Carlinhos Félix blasted a shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. 76 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Carlinhos Félix came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Here Comes the Hammer was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kenneth Jönsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. 82 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Carlinhos Félix came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Björkqvist having to interfere. In the 94th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 96 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Emil Paulin was slow to take the kick. During this time Here Comes the Hammer's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Here Comes the Hammer's corner Gustav Larsfelt fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
