Cosimo Michelini charged in rather forcefully in the 3rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cosimo Michelini the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 3rd minute, Cosimo Michelini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amerigo Eggers short, quick shot in the 6thth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Agustín Saelices had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Modesto Oakley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 18 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ermanno Baratta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 28th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Modesto Oakley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Amerigo Egger's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. In the 36th match minute, Lilywhites was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cosimo Michelini to maneuver through the defense. Modesto Oakley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 38th minute of play. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 39th minute. A well-hit corner resulted in Agustín Saelices heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Lilywhites's Cosimo Michelini got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Róbert Szepes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Amerigo Eggers short, quick shot in the 45thth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in.

Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amerigo Egger in the 52nd minute of play. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 55th minute. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Róbert Szepes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Róbert Szepes in the 57th minute of play. Lilywhites's Modesto Oakley proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to save Lilywhites from getting a goal against them. In the 65th minute Amerigo Egger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 65 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Modesto Oakley having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Modesto Oakley in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 70th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 72 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Amerigo Egger came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 74th minute, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. When the match clock showed 77 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Amerigo Egger sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Lilywhites was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cosimo Michelini didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 83rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lilywhites's goalkeeper Modesto Oakley, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a free kick in the 84th minute. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amerigo Egger, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. In the 87th minute of the match Lilywhites got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ermanno Baratta ran over to the corner to take the kick. Róbert Szepes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ecuador's Agustín Saelices got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 94th minute, Ermanno Baratta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1.
