The audience thought a goal was coming when Andolín Echeandía got free with Julio Vera in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Salvador Ortega having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Andolín Echeandía in the 51st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. The Lautaro L.P. fans' excitement grew in the 52nd match minute when Lautaro L.P.'s Andolín Echeandía looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal.
