Ruy Goiano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mario Fernandino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Ruy Goiano tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luciano Salgado kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. Mario Fernandino might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ruy Goiano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mario Fernandino ran back to his position shaking his head. Ruy Goiano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mario Fernandino, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Giuseppe Ferreira charged in rather forcefully in the 23rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Giuseppe Ferreira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Portuguesa getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Zé Paulo Mendes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Eduardo Fontirroig managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bolivia's supporters rose to their feet, but Eduardo Fontirroig was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Iuri Neto hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Zé Paulo Mendes took the ball and in the 92 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Camilo Freixa. Camilo Freixa dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. In the 97th minute, Mario Fernandino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Bolivia were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
