But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jaime Pardo couldn't finish the play. In the 14th minute, Alan Campos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jacobo Nores took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulino Maltez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Paraguay's defense didn't have a chance, in the 25th minute, when Lucílio Figueiras scored to the left of an out of position Jacobo Nores, making the score, 1-0. Jacobo Nores made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Paulino Maltez sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Paraguay getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Primitivo Escribano hit a great ball. Paulino Maltez who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 31stth minute tested the skills of Jacobo Nores when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulino Maltez in the 35th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jaime Pardo in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Renato Vargas saved Sporting Clube de Gaya from getting behind. Ahmet Koralp Tükel hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. In the 41st match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xavier Zoido to maneuver through the defense. 42 minutes into the game, Paulino Maltez cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Jacobo Nores was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Paulino Maltez to strike the kick off in the second half. Luis Figo hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alan Campos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paraguay's Alan Campos quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Eloy Hats, made in the 86th minute of the game. In the 89th match minute, Paraguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Primitivo Escribano to maneuver through the defense. In the 90th minute, Paulino Maltez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Paraguay's attentive Xavier Zoido managed to snatch the ball when Lucílio Figueiras made a throw-in in the 93rd minute of the game. The referee felt a red card was in order, 94 minutes into the game, when Iker Tafalla put in a rough tackle. After 94 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Paraguay! Paraguay's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Sporting Clube de Gaya had won, even though Paraguay had held more of the ball.
