After a defensive mix-up in Pauliström's zone, Moises Fernandino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. The crowd rose to their feet as Henry Näver kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Ricardo Zorita. That made the score 2-0 in the 32 minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Folke Melin during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. El Salvador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
