Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Daniel Zorita kicked off to start the match. Alfredo Joey showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 5th minute of the match. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Palermo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maximino Gonzalez didn't get a good kick on the ball. 10 minutes into the match, Palermo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Alfredo Joey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. But to his dismay, Arnoldo Medina quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Alfredo Joey showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. Marcelino Chaime fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. If Arnoldo Medina had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Santiago Mino in the 25th minute of play. 27 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Santiago Mino came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Palermo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Alfredo Joey reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Through an outstanding action, after 37 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 39th minute of play forced Palermo's goalkeeper Alfredo Joey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 41st minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. A collision led to Palermo getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Carles Borg hit a great ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Arnoldo Medina was the one to do the kick off.
