The audience thought a goal was coming when Matias Bilintx got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 4th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 5th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 8th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Óscar Cordoba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Saturnino Curcio got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matias Bilintx in the 10th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jose Correa got a free kick in the 16th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jose Correa during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 24th minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Matias Bilintx stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Matias Bilintx tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Matias Bilintx who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 28thth minute tested the skills of Jonathan Ferrant when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Saturnino Curcio in the 30th minute. In the 30th minute, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Patricio Costa hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. Jose Correa kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Saturnino Curcio managed to trick Venezuela's defense and made a shot which however Jonathan Ferrant didn't slip through. A nice save in the 38thth minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Matias Bilintx got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Matias Bilintx in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Matias Bilintx fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Matias Bilintx scored 2-0 in the 58th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Patricio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Óscar Cordoba having to interfere. After 75 minutes of play, Sporting de Gijón's Matias Bilintx made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Ferrant was left in no man's land by his defense there! Venancio Emesto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Alex Chicote's late challenge caught a Sporting de Gijón's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alex Chicote helped the player get up and apologised. In the 81st match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Chicote to maneuver through the defense. After 82 minutes, Gabriel Diaz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting de Gijón and the Venezuela players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Gabriel Diaz got a free kick in the 82nd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Tomas Illescas kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Óscar Cordoba. That made the score 3-1 in the 85 minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Diego Maradona went, in the 90th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Sporting de Gijón fully deserved thier win.
