The referee ignored Palestra do Interior's protests and gave Ernani Velasco a yellow card for diving instead. In the 5th match minute, Palestra do Interior was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernani Velasco to maneuver through the defense. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Allan Varela having to interfere. 19 minutes into the match, Lautaro Mancebo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Allan Varela. Palestra do Interior's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lautaro Mancebo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Romário Barbosa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulo Godoi in the 30th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Allan Varela showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Romário Barbosa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. 38 minutes into the match, Palestra do Interior's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Allan Varela reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 39 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Macos Graciani. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Romário Barbosa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Dante Lacasa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romário Barbosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Joel Gaona fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Luca Rouco kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. With his leg Allan Varela managed to avoid a goal in the 88thth minute, when Mexico's Alberto Tafalla fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When Alberto Tafalla, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 88 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Allan Varela was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Dante Lacasa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Vitório Lago's shot from short distance in the 92nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Vitório Lago in the 94th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dante Lacasa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 94 minutes, Vitório Lago made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. Mexico's Dante Lacasa tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When the referee blew the final whistle, Palestra do Interior could leave the field as winners, despite Mexico having more of the ball for most of the match.
