After 18 played minutes Kickers United got a freekick which was hit by Pan De Wen. Emerald's Nichifor Nicolae proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Emerald from getting a goal against them. Victor Piţurcă blasted a shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Cederik Huts having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Kickers United's zone, Victor Piţurcă stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cederik Huts came out of the goal and Victor Piţurcă tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Victor Piţurcă sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Kickers United's Cederik Huts played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Victor Piţurcă in the 27th minute of play. In the 32nd minute, Victor Piţurcă made a precise shot to the right of Cederik Huts. Kickers United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Pan De Wen hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. In the 40th minute of the game Pan De Wen made a throw-in which Jorge Reijnders played forward. 42 minutes into the match, Kickers United's goal looked a bit too open when Victor Piţurcă came free, but Cederik Huts reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Emerald's Nichifor Nicolae got control of the ball when Dino Maquiano tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

Emerald made a substitution. Ioan Logofătu replaced Julio Iglesias. Emerald's supporters rose to their feet, but Victor Piţurcă was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cederik Huts breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nichifor Nicolae had in the 96thth minute some difficulties stopping Benjamin Vandekerkhove's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball.
