Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Lugano the free kick. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 11th minute. FC Lugano's Maximilian Buser managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Lautaro Puig in the 14 minute of the game. The supporters of FC Lugano booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juan Rubio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lautaro Puig made in the 17th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Juan Rubio immediately put the ball in play. Costa Rica's Axel Tasis got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 25th minute of the game Efrain Moruga made a throw-in which Eliseo Noboa played forward. The throw-in from Juan Rubio in the 27th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by FC Lugano's Maximilian Buser. After having played for 27 minutes, Maximilian Buser managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Lugano's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maximilian Buser was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gauthier Lepre received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 38 minutes into the match, FC Lugano's goal looked a bit too open when Axel Tasis came free, but Max Sevier reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Costa Rica were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after FC Lugano's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Axel Tasis took the corner. FC Lugano's Matteo Gartenmann managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Juan Rubio in the 44 minute of the game. Max Sevier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Axel Tasis in the 46th minute of play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. FC Lugano's attentive Fidelio Haller managed to snatch the ball when Efrain Moruga made a throw-in in the 55th minute of the game. Max Sevier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lautaro Puig made in the 60th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Alan Moruga immediately put the ball in play. A sloppy throw-in by Efrain Moruga in the 62nd minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by FC Lugano's Fidelio Haller. If Odysseus De Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Max Sevier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Tasis, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Hugo Ferrant made in the 71st minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by FC Lugano's Matteo Gartenmann. Lautaro Puig kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. FC Lugano's Gauthier Lepre suffered a sore thigh after 77 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Hugo Ferrant hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Max Sevier made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Puig in the 82nd minute. Efrain Moruga got his second yellow card in the match during the 83rd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Efrain Moruga got a free kick in the 84th minute. Odysseus De Souza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. The throw-in from Hugo Ferrant in the 94th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by FC Lugano's Matteo Gartenmann. Costa Rica succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though FC Lugano had controlled the match.
