In the 10th match minute, C.A.Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernardino Gonsalve to maneuver through the defense. Matias Bilintx struck a weak shot in the 11th minute. Buford Lim didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting de Gij贸n. 14 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gij贸n's goal looked a bit too open when Tom Misaki came free, but 脫scar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 19 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gij贸n's goal looked a bit too open when Heigo Luiga came free, but 脫scar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 23rd minute, Ambrosio Ovando hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tom Misaki's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but 脫scar Cordoba read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. In the 32nd minute C.A.Independiente were awarded a corner. Gavril Bosioc went to the cornerflag to take it. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gij贸n's zone, Gavril Bosioc stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. 脫scar Cordoba came out of the goal and Gavril Bosioc tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tom Misaki sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Matias Bilintx stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Sporting de Gij贸n's zone, Heigo Luiga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. 脫scar Cordoba came out of the goal and Heigo Luiga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 54 minutes into the match, Tom Misaki dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of 脫scar Cordoba, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 57th minute of play forced C.A.Independiente's goalkeeper Buford Lim to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tom Misaki got free with 脫scar Cordoba in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 62nd minute Diego Maradona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Buford Lim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 脫scar Cordoba made a fantastic save in the 63rd minute, when Tom Misaki sent off a good shot on target. Buford Lim took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tom Misaki got free with 脫scar Cordoba in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Sporting de Gij贸n's Venancio Emesto was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. Buford Lim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Diego Maradona in the 76th minute of play. With a little luck, Sporting de Gij贸n's 脫scar Cordoba got control of the ball when Tom Misaki tried to sneak it across the goal line. C.A.Independiente's attentive Nereo Frederico managed to snatch the ball when Eustacio Loiola made a throw-in in the 81st minute of the game. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Sporting de Gij贸n's goalkeeper 脫scar Cordoba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. C.A.Independiente's Lisandro Mederi was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but 脫scar Cordoba in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Buford Lim showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Eustacio Loiola charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eustacio Loiola the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. C.A.Independiente's Justino Confesor was substituted for Heigo Luiga. The C.A.Independiente supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing C.A.Independiente would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
