The referee felt a red card was in order, 3 minutes into the game, when Neville Staples put in a rough tackle. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Saint Glenn Gothenburg. Lennart Juhlin had in the 5thth minute some difficulties stopping Daniel Zorita's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 5 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lennart Juhlin was left in no man's land by his defense there! Saint Glenn Gothenburg's Lennart Juhlin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 10th minute of play. Lennart Juhlin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. 16 minutes had been played when some careless play by Saint Glenn Gothenburg's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lennart Juhlin quite easily take care of the ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Saint Glenn Gothenburg getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Demesio Faxardo hit a great ball. After having played for 24 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Luis Andino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. After 33 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. 39 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mahoma Lopez. After 40 played minutes Saint Glenn Gothenburg got a freekick which was hit by Mahoma Lopez. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lennart Juhlin having to make a save. The Saint Glenn Gothenburg players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tage Danielsson to make the kick off. With his leg Lennart Juhlin managed to avoid a goal in the 57thth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When the match had gone on for 63 minutes, Cristian Sancho put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Lennart Juhlin. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Lennart Juhlin in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Saint Glenn Gothenburg made a substitution. Dawid Watarz replaced Demesio Faxardo. After 77 played minutes Saint Glenn Gothenburg got a freekick which was hit by Demesio Faxardo. Felix Montenegro in the 79thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Ecuador walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
