When the match had gone on for 10 minutes, Horea Frumușanu took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Cevat Özkent to make any attempt to save it. A collision led to U Craiova getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Constantin Buzea hit a great ball. 15 minutes into the match, U Craiova's goal looked a bit too open when Lefter Taşcan came free, but Juan Sendoa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 19thth minute of the game Horea Frumușanu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fenerbahçe's Cevat Özkent was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Romeo Crețulescu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Cevat Özkent made a huge save. Fenerbahçe's Cevat Özkent proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Fenerbahçe from getting a goal against them. Fenerbahçe's Cevat Özkent played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Călin Pamfil in the 24th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kamuran Pekdeger during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Cevat Özkent was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Călin Pamfil showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-0 in the 27 minute of play. Juan Sendoa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Deniz Kuyas in the 29th minute of the match. Juan Sendoa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kamuran Pekdeger, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Cevat Özkent made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Dorin Cârstoiu sent off a good shot on target. Călin Pamfil fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cevat Özkent having to interfere. In the 41st minute, Kamuran Pekdeger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match clock showed 44 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Horea Frumușanu sped through Fenerbahçe's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Cevat Özkent. In the 48th minute, Călin Pamfil reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Cevat Özkent. The goal made the score 4-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Deniz Kuyas was the one to do the kick off. In the 55th minute Horea Frumușanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cevat Özkent saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 55 minutes, Horea Frumușanu put it in 5-0 from a short distance just to the right of Cevat Özkent. Horea Frumușanu struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Cevat Özkent didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U Craiova. After 63 minutes, Ştefan Stârcea mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U Craiova and the Fenerbahçe players grew even worse after the yellow card. Cevat Özkent didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Dorin Cârstoiu went, in the 66th minute, to the upper right corner, 6-0 was the resulting score. Romeo Crețulescu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Juan Sendoa came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by Fenerbahçe's Teoman Koçak. But to his dismay, Teoman Koçak quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-1. Horea Frumușanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Fenerbahçe's Ali Orhan İlcan in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U Craiova's goalie prevented a goal. In the 87th minute Romeo Crețulescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cevat Özkent saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Fenerbahçe's Arkın Tayuk got a free kick in the 89th minute. Constantin Buzea hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match.
