Roberto Layton didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jonas Herz went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Roberto Layton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Endrik Fuchs, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. USA's Roberto Layton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Toni Fabich in the 27th minute of play. Earvin Mela hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Roberto Layton had in the 34thth minute some difficulties stopping Neron Veterini's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After some careless play in the USA defense, Neron Veterini kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roberto Layton. The USA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roberto Layton should have stopped the shot. Roberto Layton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonas Herz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Switzerland booed when USA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cody Miles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Roberto Layton stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Neron Veterini's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Merlin Castro got free with Sepp Mainville in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 84th minute of the match, Frasier Huber tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Roberto Layton saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 85th minute Switzerland were awarded a corner. Endrik Fuchs went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Jonas Herz heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Elton Brewster hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Sepp Mainville made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Merlin Castro in the 92nd minute of play. The Switzerland players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
