To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match clock showed 15 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Fausto Montel sped through FC Cosula-BTF-'s defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ovidiu Marin. Alf Tempel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Filip Hosu in the 24th minute of play. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Rapid Wien's goalkeeper Alf Tempel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to FC Cosula-BTF- getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Aurelian Giurcă hit a great ball. FC Cosula-BTF-'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Rapid Wien the free kick. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

Olimpiu Bobeica was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 52 minutes into the match. FC Cosula-BTF-:s Ovidiu Marin showed great skill when he stopped Daniel Hagedorn:s penalty. After a rather tough play, FC Cosula-BTF-'s Ciprian Gaiță got a free kick in the 55th minute. After a defensive mix-up in FC Cosula-BTF-'s zone, Fausto Montel stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. The Rapid Wien fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-1. Rapid Wien walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
