Vito Cearense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mihovil Zorčić, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. In the 19th minute, Marco Prestes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 23rd minute, Dráusio Valladares made a precise shot to the right of Lino Crnogaj. A very good chance. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dado Glavota to make the kick off.
