U21 Spain's Marcos Santos suffered a sore thigh after 14 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Lejf Brinkbo fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Denmark's protests and gave Lejf Brinkbo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 15th minute, Lejf Brinkbo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Severiano Gutierrez blasted a shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Einar Klysnov having to make a save. After 20 minutes of play, U21 Denmark's Hassan Mylting made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Xilo Aguilo was left in no man's land by his defense there! Einar Klysnov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Severiano Gutierrez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alex Wenike might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Xilo Aguilo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Lejf Brinkbo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alex Wenike struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Xilo Aguilo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Denmark. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Severiano Gutierrez took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Einar Klysnov to make any attempt to save it. In the 41st minute Alex Wenike shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Xilo Aguilo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 43 minutes into the match, U21 Denmark's Alex Wenike sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Xilo Aguilo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. U21 Spain's Landolfo Quevedo managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Daniel Agger in the 46 minute of the game. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Severiano Gutierrez was the one to do the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as U21 Denmark's Alex Wenike slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Xilo Aguilo. That made the score 1-2 after 52 minutes of play. Xilo Aguilo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lejf Brinkbo, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 56 minutes into the game, when Leobardo Briso put in a rough tackle. In a very dangerous position, a player in U21 Spain fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 56th minute. Penalty! Xilo Aguilo had in the 59thth minute some difficulties stopping Alex Wenike's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Alex Wenike did an outstanding performance 59 minutes into the match, when he by himself got past the opposing team's defense and with a quick scored 1-3 to the right of an irritated Xilo Aguilo in the goal. U21 Spain made a substitution. Epicuro Izquierdo replaced Adrián Serena. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alex Wenike in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Xilo Aguilo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Lejf Brinkbo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Xilo Aguilo was relentless in the 76th minute of the game. 81 minutes into the match, U21 Denmark's Lejf Brinkbo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Xilo Aguilo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 86th minute, Alex Wenike left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Denmark fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. U21 Denmark made a substitution. Gorm Jattu replaced Kenney Højerby. Bo Dogel could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 93rd minute of the match, but Xilo Aguilo made a huge save. A collision led to U21 Spain getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Lorien Laredo hit a great ball. Einar Klysnov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Severiano Gutierrez in the 98th minute of play.
