Kazım Lokman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Peter Snell in the 16th minute of the match. Herbert Björnberg hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute, Aggelos Farmakas sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and FC Zenit Saint Petersburg's Zafer Hürsel didn't even have to move. Kazım Lokman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emanuel Emander in the 22nd minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 24 minutes, Peter Snell took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Kazım Lokman to make any attempt to save it. FC Zenit Saint Petersburg's Zafer Hürsel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tuna Karal in the 28th minute of play. The throw-in from Aggelos Farmakas in the 41st minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by FC Zenit Saint Petersburg's Håkan Kjellman. Peter Snell took the ball and in the 42 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kazım Lokman. Kazım Lokman dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Arvid Gallin hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tuna Karal to make the kick off. The supporters of FC Zenit Saint Petersburg booed when Beşiktaş çArşı was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. FC Zenit Saint Petersburg's defense didn't have a chance, in the 67th minute, when Tuna Karal scored to the left of an out of position Zafer Hürsel, making the score, 3-1. A well-hit corner resulted in Valentin Ivarsson heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Zafer Hürsel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tuna Karal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
