The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Sergiu Cepoi took the kick off in the first half of the match. Kim-André van der Schans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Perju in the 4th minute of the match. Through an outstanding action, after 4 minutes, Kim-André van der Schans successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Alain Berset's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cãlin Damaschin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. Kim-André van der Schans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sergiu Cepoi, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. After 13 minutes of play, Switzerland's Alain Berset made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cãlin Damaschin was left in no man's land by his defense there! A collision led to Switzerland getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Howard Archambault hit a great ball. 16 minutes into the match, Sergiu Cepoi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Kim-André van der Schans, 1-1. After a defensive mix-up in Moldova's zone, Alain Berset stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cãlin Damaschin came out of the goal and Alain Berset tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cãlin Damaschin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alain Berset, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 32nd minute, Sergiu Cepoi made a precise shot to the right of Kim-André van der Schans. Switzerland's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1.
