The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Dwayne Clement fell near the penalty area in the 8th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored New England Minas's protests and gave Dwayne Clement a yellow card for diving instead. Dwayne Clement kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Haroldo de Sena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kaba Sø in the 14th minute of play. Tod Mosley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Haroldo de Sena tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Haroldo de Sena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tobias Herrington, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Tobias Herrington hit a great ball. Haroldo de Sena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tod Mosley in the 25th minute of play. Tod Mosley took the ball and in the 28 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Haroldo de Sena. Haroldo de Sena dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Haroldo de Sena took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tod Mosley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Haroldo de Sena came out of the goal in the 37th minute to try and stop a shot by New England Minas's Tod Mosley. But to his dismay, Tod Mosley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Walmyr Proença charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Walmyr Proença the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After the first half New England Minas were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Walmyr Proença stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 54 played minutes Reko-Recko 03™ got a freekick which was hit by Hortêncio Rosa. 0-4 came in the 59th minute when Pere Ba all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Haroldo de Sena. In the 69th minute Tod Mosley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Haroldo de Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 71 minutes into the match, Reko-Recko 03™'s goal looked a bit too open when Tod Mosley came free, but Haroldo de Sena reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Haroldo de Sena was a little too slow when Kaba Sø got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 73rd minute. The score was now 0-5. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kaba Sø during the 75th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Dwayne Clement got his second yellow card in the match during the 79th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 80th match minute, New England Minas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dwayne Clement to maneuver through the defense.
