Luiz Monteiro was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 10th minute Baltazar Dantas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vinícius Macedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luiz Monteiro came out of the goal in the 21st minute to try and stop a shot by Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Chico de Brito. But to his dismay, Chico de Brito quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Chico de Brito took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luiz Monteiro. Luiz Monteiro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. 27 minutes into the game, Eusébio Magalhães cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-5. Luiz Monteiro was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The audience was convinced that Chico de Brito's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luiz Monteiro was relentless in the 31st minute of the game. Renatinho Linhares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube booed when Montesclarense E.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Caco Rossi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luiz Monteiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chico de Brito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Eusébio Magalhães managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Eusébio Magalhães was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luiz Monteiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sandro dos Santos during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 42 played minutes Montesclarense E.C. got a freekick which was hit by Sandro dos Santos. Wilson Piazza kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Luiz Monteiro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chico de Brito, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th minute of the match, Eusébio Magalhães tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Luiz Monteiro saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. With a little luck, Montesclarense E.C.'s Luiz Monteiro got control of the ball when Ian Abreu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 62 minutes, Luiz Monteiro successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After 64 played minutes Eusébio Magalhães rounded Montesclarense E.C.'s defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 0-6. Montesclarense E.C.'s defense didn't have a chance, in the 67th minute, when Chico de Brito scored to the left of an out of position Luiz Monteiro, making the score, 0-7. Luiz Monteiro made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Ian Abreu sent off a good shot on target. Luiz Monteiro had great luck who in the 75thth minute grab hold of the ball when Chico de Brito from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Luiz Monteiro made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Tarcisio Goiano sent off a good shot on target. Montesclarense E.C.'s Luiz Monteiro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 86th minute of the match, managed to save Montesclarense E.C. from getting a goal against them. Ian Abreu took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luiz Monteiro. With his leg Luiz Monteiro managed to avoid a goal in the 93rdth minute, when Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Chico de Brito fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 95 minutes of play, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Eusébio Magalhães made it 0-9 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Luiz Monteiro was left in no man's land by his defense there! Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Perivaldo Valle got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
