After 20 played minutes Inter de Guayaquil FC got a freekick which was hit by Xavier Zanetti. The audience thought a goal was coming when Éric Cantona got free with Rune Jarstein in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nils Hovermann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Rune Jarstein was out of position in the 31 minute of play, and Éric Cantona capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Éric Cantona really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Rune Jarstein came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Inter de Guayaquil FC's Jakub Ziombkowski. But to his dismay, Jakub Ziombkowski quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Inter de Guayaquil FC's Sebastian Hellkvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zé Paulo da Silva in the 42nd minute of play. 44 minutes into the match, Hertha 1969's Gigel Elenescu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sebastian Hellkvist narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
Inter de Guayaquil FC made a substitution. Zé Pedro Baptista replaced Humberto Barragan. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nils Hovermann was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the game, Hertha 1969's Gigel Elenescu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sebastian Hellkvist made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. 56 minutes into the game, one of Hertha 1969:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Hertha 1969:s Rune Jarstein showed great skill when he stopped Lorenzo Acutain:s penalty. 61 minutes into the match, Hertha 1969's goal looked a bit too open when Jörn Svartengren came free, but Rune Jarstein reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 62 minutes into the game, Kristian Oswald recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Sebastian Hellkvist. Kristian Oswald showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. A collision led to Inter de Guayaquil FC getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Zé Pedro Baptista hit a great ball. 67 minutes into the match, Inter de Guayaquil FC's goalkeeper Sebastian Hellkvist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zé Paulo da Silva. In the 68th minute the ball was on its way in behind Hertha 1969's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Hertha 1969's Rune Jarstein played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jörn Svartengren in the 77th minute of play. Inter de Guayaquil FC's Lorenzo Acutain got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 87th match minute, Hertha 1969 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stefan Mayer to maneuver through the defense. Inter de Guayaquil FC's Sebastian Hellkvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gigel Elenescu in the 89th minute of play. Sebastian Hellkvist took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gigel Elenescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rune Jarstein showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jörn Svartengren, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. In the 97th minute of the match, Wilhelm Nienhaus tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Sebastian Hellkvist saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line.
Hertha 1969's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
