An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan Funes in the 16th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Francisco Barrionuevo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chile's Francisco Barrionuevo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juan Funes in the 27th minute of play. 40 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Juan Funes came free, but Francisco Barrionuevo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Rogelio Mendiola blasted a shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcelo Barovero having to make a save. Ysmael Abad received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Francisco Barrionuevo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Chile made a substitution. Abundio Manzano replaced Rogelio Mendiola. 61 minutes into the match, Bolivia's Juan Funes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Francisco Barrionuevo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After some careless play in the Chile defense, Juan Funes kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Francisco Barrionuevo. The Chile fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Francisco Barrionuevo should have stopped the shot. Bolivia made a substitution. Sergio Batista replaced Pablo Solari. Bolivia's Marcelo Barovero proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 66th minute of the match, managed to save Bolivia from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juan Mondaca in the 68th minute of play forced Bolivia's goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 74thth minute of the game Juan Mondaca who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Bolivia's Marcelo Barovero was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Marcelo Barovero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan Mondaca in the 80th minute of play. Juan Mondaca might have been able to make a better finish in the 83rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcelo Barovero. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Juan Mondaca ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juan Mondaca got free with Marcelo Barovero in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Francisco Barrionuevo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergio Batista in the 84th minute of the match. In the 85th minute, Chile's Juan Mondaca dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1. Bolivia's Cipriano Abechuco was substituted for Ysmael Abad. A collision led to Chile getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Theobald Roques hit a great ball. Ponciano Abarca kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Juan Mondaca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
