In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind SK Mons's goalkeeper Jerom Smoors, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 20 minutes into the match, Silvério Pinheiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jerom Smoors. SK Mons's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Silvério Pinheiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Jerom Smoors made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvério Pinheiro in the 23rd minute of play. In the 25th minute Bogumil Czapski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sergio Goicoechea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sergio Goicoechea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Trevor Eubank, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Hugo De Leon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Silvério Pinheiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Gust Van Dijck fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SK Mons's protests and gave Gust Van Dijck a yellow card for diving instead. 史挺南 could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Jerom Smoors made a huge save. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Trevor Eubank made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Trevor Eubank in the 53rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sergio Goicoechea saved GRÊMIO from getting behind. 58 minutes into the match, SK Mons's goal looked a bit too open when 史挺南 came free, but Jerom Smoors reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. SK Mons's Jerom Smoors played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abel Pirani in the 59th minute of play. 60 minutes into the match, SK Mons's goal looked a bit too open when Abel Pirani came free, but Jerom Smoors reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 61st match minute, GRÊMIO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kauã Leo to maneuver through the defense. In the 62nd minute, Abel Pirani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 63rd match minute, SK Mons was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gust Van Dijck to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in SK Mons's zone, 史挺南 stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jerom Smoors came out of the goal and 史挺南 tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jerom Smoors stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of 史挺南's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. Jerom Smoors made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abel Pirani in the 74th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 75 minutes, Sergio Goicoechea successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Trevor Eubank in the 76th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Silvério Pinheiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jerom Smoors. Steven Puttemans hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. 89 minutes into the match, Trevor Eubank had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sergio Goicoechea. GRÊMIO's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Trevor Eubank was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. 史挺南 struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Jerom Smoors didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GRÊMIO.
