Orvar Bäckström made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rogerio Bocos in the 8th minute. 10 minutes into the match, Henric Springfält had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Octavio Berrios. Cuenca FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Henric Springfält was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Octavio Berrios showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ruben Gentza in the 15th minute of the match. Octavio Berrios showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Clemente Rubio, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Henric Springfält took the ball and in the 21 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Octavio Berrios. Octavio Berrios dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. After 24 played minutes Cuenca FC got a freekick which was hit by Erick Gonta. Octavio Berrios came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Basavilbaso FC's Clemente Rubio. But to his dismay, Clemente Rubio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Paulo Mattin hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. In the 31stth minute of the game Ruben Gentza who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cuenca FC's Octavio Berrios was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a little luck, Basavilbaso FC's Orvar Bäckström got control of the ball when Rogerio Bocos tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Basavilbaso FC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Raimundo Marquez hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clemente Rubio in the 37th minute of play forced Cuenca FC's goalkeeper Octavio Berrios to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clemente Rubio recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 41 minutes, Clemente Rubio made it 0-5 with a short kick to the right side. Cuenca FC's Octavio Berrios tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Orvar Bäckström made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rogerio Bocos in the 46th minute. After the first half Basavilbaso FC were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 89th minute, Basavilbaso FC's Eriberto Lordi seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Eriberto Lordi the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Basavilbaso FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Eriberto Lordi had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch.
