Hugo Orlando Gatti showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felipe Inocente, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by George Hagi in the 20th minute of play forced Abuba Akotonon FC's goalkeeper Hugo Orlando Gatti to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 21 minutes, Genaro Elivareo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arnoldo Montrell got free with Hugo Orlando Gatti in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Arnoldo Montrell could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Hugo Orlando Gatti made a huge save. Jeronimo Dantel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cecilio Tristan in the 43rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Robustiano Beat could shoot a difficult shot in the 45th minute, which Hugo Orlando Gatti however easily saved by the left post. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
