An unexpectedly hard shot by Sven-Edvin Jansson in the 9th minute of play forced Vodka Stars 1949's goalkeeper Generoso Beloki to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Curcio Alonso could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Nery Pumpido made a huge save. With an all-out effort, Vodka Stars 1949's Nery Pumpido threw himself towards the right post 20 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Paul Geeraerts, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vodka Stars 1949's goalkeeper Generoso Beloki, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 26th minute, Sven-Edvin Jansson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Generoso Beloki was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. When the match clock showed 28 minutes, the score became 0-4 when Zico Zellier sped through Vodka Stars 1949's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Generoso Beloki. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lucas Montaña in the 31st minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sven-Edvin Jansson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Generoso Beloki having to make a save. In the 34th minute Sven-Edvin Jansson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Generoso Beloki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, GuateFortín's Heriberto Correa got a free kick in the 36th minute. Remir Martínez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Nery Pumpido made a huge save. GuateFortín's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Angel Alvarenga in the 45th minute. The corner led GuateFortín's Angel Alvarenga to fire away a dangerous shot which Generoso Beloki despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Thierry Henry was the one to do the kick off. In the 58th match minute, Vodka Stars 1949 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Casado Castan to maneuver through the defense. Vodka Stars 1949 made a substitution. Martin Batalla replaced Erik Véber. Casado Castan kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. After taking down the ball on Vodka Stars 1949's corner Curcio Alonso fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nery Pumpido quite easily take care of the ball. Thierry Henry sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Generoso Beloki showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thierry Henry, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. In the 69thth minute of the game Thierry Henry who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vodka Stars 1949's Generoso Beloki was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paul Geeraerts, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vodka Stars 1949's Santos Valladolid was substituted for Edmundo London. Vodka Stars 1949's Txema Cifuentes was substituted for Casado Castan. In the 74th minute Vodka Stars 1949 were awarded a corner. Curcio Alonso went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Vodka Stars 1949's Lucas Montaña to fire away a dangerous shot which Nery Pumpido despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The supporters of Vodka Stars 1949 booed when GuateFortín was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Lozano didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 77 played minutes, Vodka Stars 1949's Curcio Alonso shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nery Pumpido came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Vodka Stars 1949 reached it. 86 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Curcio Alonso came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 87thth minute of the game Thierry Henry who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Vodka Stars 1949's Generoso Beloki was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as GuateFortín's Thierry Henry slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Generoso Beloki. That made the score 0-5 after 89 minutes of play.
