Pipis Karapatakis might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Epifanio Guerrero. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pipis Karapatakis ran back to his position shaking his head. Epifanio Guerrero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pipis Karapatakis in the 14th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pipis Karapatakis in the 18th minute of play forced alvarado's goalkeeper Epifanio Guerrero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 19th minute of the match Grêmio FBPA got a corner. alvarado's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Alberto Estevon ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Grêmio FBPA's Alberto Estevon to fire away a dangerous shot which Epifanio Guerrero despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Pipis Karapatakis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Epifanio Guerrero having to make a save. Grêmio FBPA:s Jardel Sanches showed great skill when he stopped Esteban Đido:s penalty. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Esteban Đido in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jardel Sanches saved Grêmio FBPA from getting behind. In the 39th minute the ball was on its way in behind alvarado's goalkeeper Epifanio Guerrero, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Epifanio Guerrero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pipis Karapatakis, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. In the 41st minute of the match Grêmio FBPA got a corner. alvarado's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Epifanio Guerrero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pipis Karapatakis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 48thth minute of the game Pipis Karapatakis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but alvarado's Epifanio Guerrero was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Esteban Đido to make the kick off. Justino Gonza charged in rather forcefully in the 51st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Justino Gonza the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when alvarado was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Justino Gonza didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Pipis Karapatakis kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Epifanio Guerrero. That made the score 0-1 in the 53 minute of play. In the 57th minute, Grêmio FBPA's Rafa de Almeida seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rafa de Almeida the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Grêmio FBPA protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rafa de Almeida had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 56th minute of the game. One of Grêmio FBPA:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of alvarado:s goal. The referee gave alvarado a penalty, 59 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Esteban Đido, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Grêmio FBPA's Jardel Sanches. 1-1. Epifanio Guerrero came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Grêmio FBPA's Pipis Karapatakis. But to his dismay, Pipis Karapatakis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. If Zsolt Szénási had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With an all-out effort, Grêmio FBPA's Epifanio Guerrero threw himself towards the right post 73 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Filiph Biörling, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Epifanio Guerrero made a fantastic save in the 74th minute, when Pipis Karapatakis sent off a good shot on target. The corner led to Grêmio FBPA's Nestor Leão getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 81st minute William Garsby shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jardel Sanches saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Garsby in the 85th minute of play forced Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Jardel Sanches to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pipis Karapatakis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Epifanio Guerrero made a huge save. After some careless play in the alvarado defense, Pipis Karapatakis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Epifanio Guerrero. The alvarado fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Epifanio Guerrero should have stopped the shot. Grêmio FBPA made a substitution. Ted Hoogenkamp replaced Filiph Biörling. alvarado made a substitution. Abel Bordat replaced Teofilo Oskitz. The alvarado supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Grêmio FBPA's performance. The match ended with a win for Grêmio FBPA.
