Suat Kaya's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aykan Babür read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. After having played for 19 minutes, Rain De Hond managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Genk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rain De Hond was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Suat Kaya sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Senator S.A.K were furious when Abuzer Sarıalp was red carded, 23 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 24th minute there was a penalty for Genk. Suat Kaya stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Aykan Babür. 2-0. Jannes Van Leempoel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ignacio Argi, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Suat Kaya didn't have the luck on his side when he, from a short distance, got a opportunity for a shot on goal in the 36th minute. The shot missed the goal on the right side and Suat Kaya ran dejectedly back to his position. Aytekin Köksan made in the 41st minute of the game a quick throw-in and Fazıl Özgeer immediately put the ball in play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The audience was convinced that Suat Kaya's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aykan Babür was relentless in the 81st minute of the game.
