An unexpectedly hard shot by Reiner Fallas in the 10th minute of play forced Gimnasia LP's goalkeeper Tiran Piedra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Waut Van Der Meeren made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Benvide Ponte in the 12th minute of play. Tiran Piedra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nestor Cruz in the 14th minute of the match. The corner led to Anversa Club's Winarto Songgonau getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Winarto Songgonau blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Tiran Piedra having to make a save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Nicu Vornicu in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tiran Piedra prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Benvide Ponte's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waut Van Der Meeren read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. 25 minutes into the match, Gimnasia LP's goal looked a bit too open when Winarto Songgonau came free, but Tiran Piedra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Reiner Fallas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tiran Piedra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicu Vornicu in the 28th minute of play. After 32 played minutes Gimnasia LP got a freekick which was hit by 曾宽云. Benvide Ponte could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Waut Van Der Meeren made a huge save. If Nicu Vornicu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nicu Vornicu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Gimnasia LP's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Melquiades Hondo in the 52nd minute. The corner led Gimnasia LP's Melquiades Hondo to fire away a dangerous shot which Waut Van Der Meeren despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A hard shot 54 in the game by Nicu Vornicu from a close distance when the talented Tiran Piedra managed to make a qualified save. Gimnasia LP's players were relieved. Melquiades Hondo kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nicu Vornicu got free with Tiran Piedra in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Amado Sindo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Waut Van Der Meeren tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 70 minutes into the match, Anversa Club's goal looked a bit too open when Benvide Ponte came free, but Waut Van Der Meeren reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
