In the 2nd minute Fernando Morientes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lionel Paly saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olimpia HSB's Tolek Kiszkiel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pirmin Jäggi in the 7th minute of play. Olimpia HSB were awarded a corner in the 9th minute after FC Wil 1900's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Fernando Morientes took the corner. Fernando Morientes made a great header on Olimpia HSB's corner, it was just that FC Wil 1900's Lionel Paly managed to reach the ball for a save. One of FC Wil 1900:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Olimpia HSB:s goal. In the 45th match minute, Olimpia HSB was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ezequiel Abecia to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tory Pryor to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind FC Wil 1900's goalkeeper Lionel Paly, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The Olimpia HSB fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Lionel Paly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jacek Pietrowiak in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 89th minute, one of FC Wil 1900:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for FC Wil 1900. FC Wil 1900:s Lionel Paly showed great skill when he stopped Fernando Morientes:s penalty. In the 95th minute, Jacek Pietrowiak made a precise shot to the right of Lionel Paly. FC Wil 1900's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-0. FC Wil 1900's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
