Gabriel Turi spun around in front of the goal 3 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Miguel Ángel Ortiz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guido Carrillo in the 5th minute of play. In the 7th minute Guido Carrillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Ángel Ortiz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Guido Carrillo in the 8th minute. After taking down the ball on ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's corner Osvaldo Gabon fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Miguel Ángel Ortiz quite easily take care of the ball. If Guido Carrillo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Miguel Ángel Ortiz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guido Carrillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 12th match minute, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vicente Txomin to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute Gabriel Turi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Ángel Ortiz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the last second Tautvydas Mickevičius throw himself and got hold of the ball when Marcel Abreu in the 20thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Miguel Ángel Ortiz came out of the goal in the 24th minute to try and stop a shot by ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Guido Carrillo. But to his dismay, Guido Carrillo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Tautvydas Mickevičius showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcel Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcel Abreu got free with Tautvydas Mickevičius in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 32 played minutes ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA got a freekick which was hit by Lucio Txordon. Miguel Ángel Ortiz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guido Carrillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 36th match minute, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luizão Prata to maneuver through the defense. If Gabriel Turi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 42nd minute, Gabriel Turi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Miguel Ángel Ortiz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. After the first half ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Marcel Abreu to strike the kick off in the second half. Tautvydas Mickevičius showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ladislao Mazurkiewicz, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. 57 minutes into the match, S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Miguel Ángel Ortiz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Guido Carrillo. Omar Erez hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. After having played for 60 minutes, Ladislao Mazurkiewicz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ladislao Mazurkiewicz was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tautvydas Mickevičius came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Marcel Abreu. But to his dismay, Marcel Abreu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Guido Carrillo managed to get in a good position for a shot. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's supporters rose to their feet, but Guido Carrillo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Miguel Ángel Ortiz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. João Batista kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
