In the 20th minute Angel Alvarenga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicasio Abad saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Zico Zellier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Angel Alvarenga in the 23rd minute of play forced Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s goalkeeper Nicasio Abad to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s Nicasio Abad got control of the ball when Sven-Edvin Jansson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nery Pumpido stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Pietro Salles's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Zico Zellier kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nicasio Abad. That made the score 1-0 in the 31 minute of play. In the 40th minute Pietro Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 42 minutes into the game, Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s Pietro Salles nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nery Pumpido made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Pietro Salles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

A collision led to GuateFortín getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Heriberto Correa hit a great ball. When GuateFortín's Thierry Henry in the 59th minute got a chance for a shot 59th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Monterrey ante el Mundo⛥'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Angel Alvarenga ran over to the corner to take the kick.
